Merchant

Quebec's consumer protection law defines a merchant as anyone who provides products or services to consumers as part of a ongoing business aimed at making a profit.

Under this law, manufacturers and advertisers are also merchants.

However, farmers, artisans and professionals working on their own are not considered to be merchants.

Minute-book of the court clerk

Also called a "plumitif".

A court record kept about all the stages of a court case. Information in the plumitif includes the names of the parties, the court case number, the date of each hearing, a list of legal documents put into the court file and decisions of the judge.

Motion

1. An official document that starts a court case.

2. A request presented during a court case.

Movable

An object that can be moved.

Examples: cars, tables, chairs, vacuum cleaners, jewelry, clothing.
