H

Hearsay

Events or conversations that a person did not witness or hear herself, but only heard from someone else.

For example, if someone says “I know that X stole a car because Y told me.”, this is hearsay.

In most situations, courts do not accept hearsay.

Heir

A person who accepts, or is legally obliged to accept, an estate or part of an estate.

The official name for an estate is a "succession".
