Takuai...what?

Takuaíkan is an Innu word that means "what leads, what commands", and which expresses the idea of rectitude and integrity. Our Takuaíkan project offers plain-language legal information to Native women on subjects that are relevant to their lives.

Wondering what the logo means? The bear, which occupies a privileged place in the Native imagination, is a symbol of power, strength, and justice. It evokes the introspection and silence which guides each person on the path towards self-knowledge.

The Native Legal Info sections presented in Takuaíkan were broadcast in the spring of 2001 and 2003 on several radio stations in Aboriginal communities. They are the outcome of a partnership between Éducaloi and the Association des Femmes autochtones du Québec (FAQ). This association works towards improving the living conditions of Aboriginal women and encouraging greater involvement within their communities.

Éducaloi and the FAQ have worked together since 2000 to provide Aborginal women with quality legal information which reflects their reality.
