First names chosen by parents
2006-11-21
In 2005, the Régie des rentes du Québec was informed of the births of babies named Solstice, Joviale, Neptune, Korn, Chenille, Diesel, etc. Since the Registrar of Civil Status decided, in 1999, to stop getting involved in parents’ choice of names, uncommon first names have gained some popularity.
Some people consider that parents should be allowed to express themselves. Other people think that certain names are ridiculous and could cause a child to suffer. In your opinion, should the Registrar of Civil Status once again start keeping an eye on the first names given to babies in Quebec?
