“Yes, I do!” Arthur and Bertha are now married. But they were so excited about the idea of getting married that they never thought about signing a notarized marriage contract.

Once couples marry or are in a civil union, they are automatically covered by rules called a matrimonial regime. If they have not signed a marriage or civil union contract, they will be covered by a regime called “parternship of acquests”.
