NATHALIE ROY, Executive Director
Nathalie was admitted to the Bar in 1991. After finishing her studies in law, she alternately held positions as a research assistant, journalist, and professor. She then worked as a legal advisor in a community organization. From June 1997 to June 2000, she was Assistant to the Office of the Bâtonnier du Québec, where she became well-acquainted with the legal community. As the Executive Director of Éducaloi, Nathalie Roy is responsible for the general administration of the organization, as well as development and public relations. Nathalie Roy is a founding member of Éducaloi. Nathalie Roy is on parental leave until February 2012.
GENEVIÈVE FORTIN, Interim Executive Director
Geneviève Fortin was admitted to the Bar in 1994. After completing her studies in law, she returned to the classroom to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Communications in 1998. A founding member of Éducaloi, Geneviève Fortin was a Project Coordinator and Head of Communications for four years. During this period, she participated in the development and launch of Éducaloi’s website and managed major projects, such as "Jeune pour jeunes". Geneviève Fortin is currently the Assistant Executive Director of the organization. She supervises the management of all projects, and she actively seeks to develop new partnerships and areas of expertise for Éducaloi.
DOMINIQUE GARANT, Director
Dominique Garant was admitted to the Bar in 1997. After practising civil litigation and commercial law in a private firm and a large company, she joined the Éducaloi team in January 2001. Since then, she has obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law and New Information Technologies. Having been a Project Coordinator and Website Director, Dominique Garant is now Director of Internal Affairs of Éducaloi. She manages a team responsible for communications, the website, services to the Anglophone community, and information technology. She is also responsible for various activities related to the daily management of the organization.
FRANCIS BARRAGAN, Website Writer
Francis Barragan has degrees in both Civil and Common Law. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar as a lawyer in 2004. After his internship, he started studying for a Master’s in business law while also working on various mandates for a law firm. In 2007, Francis joined a federal commission of inquiry on national security matters. He later became in-house counsel for a not-for-profit organization. Francis Barragan joined Éducaloi in 2011 as a website writer. He creates legal information resources for the general public.
CAROLINE BOILY, Editor-in-chief
Caroline Boily has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s degree in Communications. She was a journalist for over 10 years, working as a writer, producer and editor for radio, television and web-based media. Caroline Boily is also a documentary film maker. Her short films have been shown at festivals here and abroad. She has been at Educaloi since August 2011, where she is editor-in-chief of the organization’s website.
GENEVIÈVE BENOIT, Project Coordinator
Geneviève Benoit was admitted to the Bar in January 2005. She joined Éducaloi in September 2001. While pursuing her studies, Geneviève Benoit worked with the organization alternately as a Université de Montréal stagiaire, freelancer, and assistant web editor. After completing her articling at the Service de recherche et législation du Barreau du Québec, she returned to Éducaloi as an Executive Assistant. Geneviève Benoit currently occupies the position of Project Coordinator.
LISANNE BLANCHETTE, Content Manager
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Law, Lisanne Blanchette was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2008. She started her career with a government Legal Aid office, focusing on the areas of youth protection and youth criminal justice. Later on, she worked for a non-profit consumer rights organization and did research on civil and commercial law for a law firm. Lisanne Blanchette joined Éducaloi in September 2011 as a content manager. She creates legal information resources for the general public and advises clients on plain language legal communications.
ÉMILIE CHEVRIER, Legal Writer
Emilie Chevrier graduated in law from the University of Montreal in 2010. She believes that providing legal information in plain language is a key part of access to justice for the public. During her law studies, she worked at Éducaloi doing research on a variety of legal topics, updating information on the organization’s website and creating legal information products. She now works as a legal writer at Éducaloi, creating information resources for the general public.
ASTRID DAIGNEAULT-GUIMOND, Content Manager
Astrid Daigneault-Guimond was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2008. She has degrees in both Civil and Common Law. She started her career in private practice at a law firm specializing in litigation. Later on, she worked at the Université de Montreal’s Cyberjustice Laboratory as a research assistant. She also worked in legal recruitment. During the fall of 2011, Astrid was a freelancer for Educaloi. In January 2012, she joined Éducaloi full-time as a content manager. She creates legal information resources for the general public and advises clients on plain language legal communications.
HUBERT DAVID, Head of Technology
Hubert David obtained his law degree in 1996. Following his studies, he worked in the information technology and telecommunications field for more than six years. During that time, he acquired significant project management experience, with a focus on the technical side of such work. He returned to the legal world in 2005, as a Project and Activity Coordinator for the Young Bar Association of Montreal. Hubert David joined the Éducaloi team in June 2005. He is responsible for information technology and logistics. He provides support to the entire team in these areas.
SARAH DOUGHERTY, Content Manager
Sarah Dougherty has been a member of the Bar of Quebec since 1988 and was a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada for many years. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in English literature, she studied law at McGill University. Sarah Dougherty practiced commercial litigation and constitutional law at a Montreal firm and later co-wrote a study on the Canadian Charter of Rights for the federal government. After returning to school in 1998 to study journalism, she worked as a freelance writer, translator and teacher before joining Éducaloi in March, 2009. As a content manager, Sarah Dougherty creates legal information resources for the general public. She also acts as a consultant in the area of plain language legal information.
ANNICK GARIÉPY, Project Coordinator
Annick Gariépy was admitted to the Bar in 2001. Member of the Éducaloi team since March 2000, she completed her articling at Éducaloi. Initially, Annick Gariépy was web master of the Éducaloi website; in particular, she coordinated a key reform of the website. Currently completing a master’s degree in education, she occupies the position of Project Coordinator.
MÉLANIE LAVOIE, Assistant to the Executive Director
Mélanie Lavoie received an Office Systems Technology diploma in 1994. After working in the financial sector for a number of years, she was an administrative assistant in the legal departments of several large corporations. Mélanie Lavoie joined the Éducaloi team in January 2008 and is the assistant to the executive director. She assists management and the rest of the Éducaloi team with their administrative needs.
CAROLINE OUELLET, Content Manager
Caroline Ouellet has been a notary since 2009. She has bachelor’s degrees in communications and law. During her law studies, she worked on several Éducaloi projects. She later joined a firm of notaries, working in the areas of real estate, family law and non-contentious matters (legal tasks not involving a dispute). She re-joined the Éducaloi team in January 2010. As a content manager, Caroline Ouellet designs and produces legal information tools for the general public. She also acts as a consultant on the simplification of legal communications.
GUILLAUME RONDEAU, Content Manager
After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Law at the Université de Sherbrooke, Guillaume Rondeau completed his Bar internship in labour law with the Quebec civil service. In 2010, he was admitted to the Quebec Bar as a lawyer. He later joined Éducaloi as a content manager. He creates legal information resources for the general public, and provides specialized training on various legal topics.
STÉPHANIE ROY, Content Manager
Stéphanie Roy completed a degree in Civil Law and has a graduate diploma in Common Law. She was admitted to the Bar in 2007. She started her legal career in private practise, focusing on banking law and Canadian and international financing. She later worked as a lawyer for a non-profit, specializing in corporate law. Stéphanie Roy joined the Éducaloi team in March, 2009. As a content manager, Stéphanie Roy designs and produces legal information tools for the general public. She also acts as a consultant on the simplification of legal communications.
CLAUDE SIMARD, Communications and Marketing Advisor
Claude Simard has a Bachelor's Degree in Communication. After her studies, she worked for a communications firm. During her four years there, she helped a variety of organizations and companies develop their communications strategies. She gained expertise in brand positioning, marketing strategy and the creation of a wide range of communications tools. Claude Simard has been Educaloi’s communications and marketing advisor since November 2010.
FRÉDÉRIQUE TESSIER, Project Coordinator
Frédérique Tessier was admitted to the Bar in 1993. She worked at the Société québécoise d’information juridique (SOQUIJ) from 1996 to 2009, where she gave training courses on computerized research tools and worked in the research services department. She was later a coordinator in the customer service department and worked on various other SOQUIJ projects. Frédérique Tessier joined the Éducaloi team as a Project Coordinator in April 2009.
LAW STUDENTS
Throughout the year, law students from Quebec universities work with the Educaloi team.

During the winter of 2011, five are on board, helping Éducaloi carry out its mission:
