Municipal courts have both civil and penal jurisdiction. They apply municipal by-laws and deal with certain provincial offences under laws such as the Highway Safety Code. Municipal court judges hear cases of Criminal Code offences that are punishable on summary conviction. It is usually possible to appeal municipal court decisions.
A more detailed description of the municipal courts, as well as a virtual courtroom, will be offered on Côtécour at a later date. Éducaloi is presently looking for new financial partners to help complete Côtécour.
