It’s a spouse’s worst nightmare: winding up penniless and out on the street after a break-up, perhaps even with your kids in tow. It may be comforting to know that Quebec law sets out rules governing occupation of and access to the shared residence following a separation, as well as the use of the furniture found in the residence. Whether they shared a suburban bungalow or an apartment on the Plateau, spouses have to respect certain rules when it comes to the family residence.
